Priyadarshan shooting theme song for Kochi IPL team
Kochi, Feb 21: Ace filmmaker Priyadarshan Monday started shooting the theme song for the Indian Premier League's Kochi team, Indi Commandos, at the picturesque Varapuzha backwaters location.
'The shoot is for the theme song which will be about two-minute long and it would encompass the beauty of Kerala,' Suresh Krishna, Priyadarshan's associate, told IANS.
'Today, it was the backwaters and tomorrow we are at the home ground of the Indi Commandos at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here,' he added.
The music is composed by acclaimed music director Ousepachen and the camera is being handled by Priyan's favourite Thiru who worked for the award winning film 'Kanchipuram'.
'The theme song will feature all the leading players in the team and for that the shooting will be in Chennai and other places as the World Cup is going on,' added Krishna.
In March last year Rendezvous Sports World won the franchise rights for the Kochi IPL team for Rs.1,500 crore.

No change in Kochi IPL team's home ground
The home venue for the Kochi Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Indi Commandos, is the ground here, a Kerala Cricket Association official said Saturday, denying any change in plans for the forthcoming IPL-4 matches.
'All the talk that there would be a change in the home venue of Indi Commandos is not true and already the schedule for five matches to be staged here has been announced,' Kerala Cricket Association secretary T.C. Mathew told IANS.
Mathew was reacting to news reports that there would be a change in the home venue of Indi Commandos from Kochi to Ahmedabad.
The reports said the main reason why this talk began was the hefty 36 percent entertainment tax which the Kochi corporation is expected to levy on tickets.
'This is an aspect that has to be decided by the government and they can waive the tax. In Gujarat, there is no tax at all. We will wait and see what the government will decide,' said Mathew.
He said the association was busy giving final touches to the refurbished Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here which is the only venue in the state that has hosted One-day international matches in the past 15 years.
The KCA has budgeted Rs.5 crore for the refurbishment.
'New lights for the stadium have come from Belgium and the fitting is on. A Malaysian company that has been entrusted the job of redoing the ground with a proper drainage system is also in its final stage of work. We are certain the entire work would be over in time and the ground would be match-fit by March 10,' said Mathew.
The fourth edition of IPL begins April 8. Ten teams will play 74 matches.
These works at the stadium began after a committee of the IPL visited the ground and suggested changes.
Last October, the KCA came under fire from several quarters when the first One-day international match between the visiting Australians and India was washed out due to heavy overnight rain. The drainage system in the stadium was slammed by critics.
Rendezvous Sports World in March last year won the franchisee rights for the Kochi IPL team for Rs.1,500 crore.
Rendezvous Sports World is owned by a consortium that includes Vivek Venugopal, a businessman. Shailendra Gaekwad is also one of the owners.
Venugopal, with other five companies, has formed a group called Kerala Consortium. The others are Anchor Earth, Parani Development Private Ltd, Anand Shah Developers and Film Waves

Battle raging over IPL venue - Kochi
KOCHI: Uncertainties and controversies seem to go hand in hand with the Kochi IPL team, christened Indi Commandos Kerala.
The latest twist in the long-drawn out melodrama, having the ‘potential’ to turn into a farce, is the revelation that the franchise owners — Kochi Cricket Private Ltd — have written to the IPL Governing Council requesting to consider moving the franchise’s home ground to Ahmedabad. The reasons cited are the uncertainties over the construction of the Kerala Cricket Association’s new stadium at Edakochi, the inadequate facilities at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium and the high entertainment tax of 36 percent being levied in the state. However, sources close to the Indi Commandos told ‘expresso’ that the franchise owners were only demanding a permanent venue for the team, and they were not against playing in Kochi. “The investments for setting up the facilities required to give fans a great IPL experience would come to around `12 crore this edition. If they have to move to another venue in the subsequent editions, the franchise will have to shell out a similar, if not more, amount at the new venue,” sources said.Meanwhile, the Kerala Cricket Association is fully confident that the matches will take place in Kochi itself, more so with the Board of Control for Cricket in India having released the provisional schedule for the fourth edition of the IPL slated to be held from April 8 to May 28.“We have taken the Nehru Stadium on a lease of five years keeping the IPLin mind and the response from the BCCI has been in favour of Kochi hostingthe Indi Commandos’ home matches,” KCA secretary T C Mathew told ‘expresso’. “The KCA, Kerala and Kochi are fully prepared to host the IPL matches according to the requirements of IPL. We are going ahead with our preparations to turn the Nehru Stadium into a top class venue.” However, the mere fact that the franchise, with not all partners favouring such a move, went so far as to write to the governing council requesting a venue change brings out the extent of differences still prevailing in the consortium of five entities that just about survived the BCCI axe after messing up with their shareholding pattern. According to the schedule, five of Indi Commandos’ home matches have been allotted to Kochi while two have been given to Indore.“The basic concern of the Kochi partners is the high entertainment tax in Kerala. We have assured them that the matter is being taken up with the state government,” Mathew said.Igniting hopes, the KCA on Thursday received an official communique from the IPL Governing Council asking them to furnish details of the arrangements being made and the personnel being deployed for the smooth conduct of the matches. It is also learnt that the franchise’s only Malayali representative, Vivek Venugopal, has taken a strong stance that the team won in the name of Kochi cannot be taken to another place citing unavailability of a stadium. While it was clear, right from the time a consortium of investors bid successfully for `1533.33 crore, that partners based in Gujarat wanted the new team to play in Ahmedabad, the franchise had taken a public stand that Kochi would be retained as their home ground if a proper venue was availableKochi fans ridicule 'Commandos' IPL tag
NEW DELHI: Indian Premier League side Kochiattracted fresh controversy on Thursday for adopting the name 'Indi Commandos' ahead of their debut appearance in the money-spinning, scandal-plagued tournament.
The team, based in the southern state of Kerala, departed from the tradition of using their respective states or cities as part of their names, such asMumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders or Rajasthan Royals.
But the Kochi franchise, which almost got thrown out of the IPL over its disputed shareholding pattern, justified the name.
"Indi stands for an independent Indian cricket team that will go ahead to win a billion hearts. Commandos stands for an elite fighting squad, renowned for attacking with speed, stealth and deadly power," said a statement.
But the explanation did not cut ice with Kochi fans once the franchise uploaded the name on its official Facebook page.
"Is this an indicator of a lack of identity or is it simply that the franchise owners' loyalties lie outside the state and the city for which the team was bought in the first place?" posted an irate fan.
"Thumbs down for this.. omg..!! after all these months.. this is wht u came up with.. shocking," said another.
Fans also aired their dismay on Twitter.
One slammed the side as "IndiComman'Doomed" while another reminded Kochi that "going commando is the practice of not wearing underwear under one's outer clothing".
The franchise is likely to attract more criticism after a report said their owners had written to the IPL governing council, seeking a switch to Ahmedabad as their permanent base.
"We would request you to consider giving our franchise Ahmedabad as a permanent venue," the DNA newspaper said quoting from the letter.
"There is no entertainment tax and secondly, the state association has better infrastructure facilities."
Under the IPL schedule, Kochi will host three Indi Commandos matches while Indore will host one game.
The tournament is set to begin barely five days after the World Cup, on April 8.
